Delay of game

2009 July 15

Why do we find it necessary to go into an uproar when a game is delayed? It’s not a particularly new practice. GTA4, Smash Bros. Brawl, Bioshock and Bioshock 2 would be a few significant examples.

Obviously Bioshock 2’s delay is a hard hit on publisher Take-Two’s fianances for this year,  but in what way does it hurt us gamers? Sure we get the game later than expected, but do you think they’d delay a game for no reason?

No, games are commonly delayed for polish. And as CEO Ben Feder said;

We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve.

Why is it that we can’t take this in stride, knowing that the game will be better for it? By all means complain if it was delayed due to the incompetence of workers or even because of a poor move by publishers, but Bioshock 2 was delayed to further develop the game.

Would you rather recieve your broken, less polished copy of Bioshock 2 now, or, get the kind of game you’d expect from the Bioshock series next year? For me it’s a no brainer, as long as the game comes out*, then I think developers should take all the time they need to make the game the best it can be.

    I agree 100% Dan — there’s no reason to get all upset over a delay. The experience will be better for it!
