And best pitch for video games goes to…

Nathan Fillion in Waitress

Nathan Fillion of course!  Apparently he’s done a bunch of stuff, but I just know him from the charming romantic comedy Waitress.  Anyway, he has a major role in Halo 3: ODST as Sgt. Buck, and he recently did an interview with MSNBC.

Why should you care?  Well, I could dance around that question, but I won’t – it has brand new, never-before-seen footage of Halo 3: ODST!  It may be quick cuts and carefully edited, but some of the slices are thick enough to be genuinely interesting and impressive.  On MSNBC.  Yes, MSNBC.  No, not FOX News.  The other one, on the other side of the field.

But what’s perhaps even more entertaining than brand new footage of an upcoming Halo game is – and I’m half-way serious – watching Nathan Fillion talk about why he loves Halo.  He does it beautifully, with a mainstream (and probably sex) appeal that could likely sell another two million Xbox 360s and copies of Halo 3.  I’m not kidding – watch it.  He persuasively characterizes Xbox Live and Halo 3 as a few things – harmless, productive, fun, and easy.

Part of this is just in jest, but at the same time, Fillion really does give a great pitch for the entire industry of video games.

Yeah, that was a fun watch — 3 minutes full of good scenes from Halo: ODST and insight on the franchise from Nathan.

I really was not excited about this game at all when it was originally announced — it seems like every time I see a new piece of it though — I like it more and more. By the time this thing comes out, it may be #1 on my most anticipated games.

    It’s my #2, after Mass Effect 2.

I’m really excited to see what they do with the open world. I think Bungie understands the fundamentals of shooters to take it and mesh it with open world gameplay in a really fun way.

And Firefight looks like a great fit for the Halo formula too.

Firefight will be amazing. If it is half as good as Gears of War 2 horde mode, that will be worth $60 alone.
